I mean ladies, let’s face it, as moms and hard working women, we tend to take a back seat and put others before ourselves last; but our wellness depends on us making our needs a priority too!
I've been where you are. I suffered from depression myself. After my second child was born in 2006, I turned to a very dark place. It was a rough year to say the least, and it affected my ENTIRE family life.
Maybe you know what I’m talking about? My marriage was on the rocks, I had a 12 month-old baby and a newborn to care for, I was overweight, miserable, AND to top it all off, I was on anti-depressants. After a while, I can to the realization that I had to take matters into my own hands. i had to lift the fog that was blinding me. I took the first big step and started seeing a therapist on the regular. Back then I was super embarrassed, but now I encourage everyone to go. Make it Step 1. I remember in the first few sessions the doc looked at me and said, “you need to start working out”. I remember thinking to myself, 'is she for real This is seriously what I am paying her for?' But damn it, she was absolutely right. It was her simple suggestion that totally changed my life!
I remember finding my inspiration that kick-started my passion and love for fitness when I was cooking dinner one night. An infomercial for a kick-ass workout called "Turbo Jam" came on the TV and I was instantly hooked!I Kicking and punching to cool funky music? What could be better than that!?
(Talk about anger management tools).
This program literally CHANGED my life and led me to the current wellness path that I am on today. It took me a few months. I had to get myself into a regular exercise pattern, change my eating habits, and, most of all, work on ME. Eventually I was able to stop taking my anti-depressants and, 12 years later, here we are! I have never looked back!
You are not in this alone. For many moms, postpartum weight gain, loss of confidence, and last of self-care (which can lead to depression), is common. But, it is what we do to change that that matters the most.
Make time for yourself. No excuses!
At any rate, I want you know that my life’s passion is to help others. I want people to know that the struggles they face, they are not alone, and there is always a way to fix it! Getting healthy, strong, and confident can be yours once again, and I am here to help make it happen!
